SARATOGA SPRINGS – A 60’s hit song once said that “The Bird’s The Word”… never has this been truer in Downtown Saratoga Springs than on the afternoon of Saturday, October 8.
In fact, to be more specific, “The Wing Was The Thing” for several hundred aficionados, connoisseurs, and just plain devotees of the drumette – that swelled the restaurants and spilled out onto the sidewalks.
The name said Phila Street; but this was much more.
To begin, this was a spectacular day – weather-wise – that encourages sampling and general good-natured carousing. And it was great to see.
And of course, taste.
You had 11 restaurants strutting their stuff, and their flava… you had Jerk wings and Smoked wings. Also, Bourbon BBQ and Honey Lime Sriracha. Jack Daniels’ Wings made an appearance, as did Good & Evil; Caribbean; Thai Chili and Tequila Pomegranate. The mighty wing was done right, and people seemed to cheerily to find something appropriate to wash it all down!
Yes, and Bailey’s Café riffed on this vibe to HQ a fundraiser that garnered $4,832 – including Wing Off participant entrance fees – for the programs of the American Cancer Society.
The ultimate winner of a well-attended wing festival is your own personal taste buds. Collectively, those “buds” and your buds voted Seven Horse Pub number one. Kudos – as well to co-seconds Harvey’s and Bailey’s – and tied for the show position were Cantina and Peabody’s.
We hope you enjoy these photos. See you at the Second Annual!
